Subsea technology and services specialist Triton Group will today (May 4, 2010) announce that it is harnessing the expertise of its rental businesses under a new umbrella organization, as it prepares for major growth across existing and future oil and gas markets.
DPS Offshore will encompass Group companies DPS, DPS-Asia, ETS, Subco and Perry Slingsby Tooling Rental as Triton continues its drive to exceed the increasing international demand for its state-of-the-art technology and services.
The move follows more than $15million (USD) of investment to enhance the rental fleet, including the creation of an in-house calibration facility at DPS in Aberdeen and the expansion of its global inventory with new technologies such as Taut Wire systems and the Geonav product range.
DPS Offshore brings each company’s expertise under one roof, providing a single source from which customers can access some of the world’s leading subsea services and equipment.
It will be led by vice president Mick Jones, with Scott Johnstone taking up the role of business development director. General managers at each of the Triton facilities in Aberdeen, Lowestoft, Houston and Singapore will remain responsible for the day to day running of the respective DPS Offshore businesses.
“The rental and services division is a key growth driver for Triton so bringing all our rental provision under one roof provides us with a platform to significantly grow the business and achieve our aim of becoming the number one global provider of subsea and surface tools for rental,” said Mr Jones.
“We have an established network in the UK, USA and Asia and are now looking at expanding into other oil and gas markets going forward, with a particular focus on the South American, and African markets.”
DPS Offshore will be officially launched at a reception for Triton customers in Houston this evening.

Subsea technology and services firm Triton Group will deliver the first of its next generation ROVs to the offshore industry this month as it announces a further contract win for the Triton®XLR in deals totaling £3.8million.
Group company Perry Slingsby Systems (PSS) has completed work on the first of the custom-built XLRs to Romanian client Grup Servicii Petroliere (GSP) for immediate deployment in offshore Russia. The news comes as PSS announce a second contract win which will see it provide a system to Technocean with delivery in June 2010.
The Aberdeen-headquartered Group announced the deals during Subsea 2010, Europe’s biggest two-day subsea conference and exhibition. The XLR is the latest evolution of the successful Triton series and ‘baby brother’ to the heavy-duty XLX. Designed and manufactured by PSS, the world leading supplier of remotely intervention technologies, the 125HP vehicle has been designed for drill and light construction work and incorporates the latest controls technology, the revolutionary ICE™ Integrated real-time Control Engine, intuitive graphic user interface and ergonomic pilot control consoles with touch screen technology.
“The XLR is the next step in the evolution of subsea systems which started with the XL. Our aim was to create an innovative system which offers the utmost in efficiency and reliability for the lightweight end of the market,” said Rory Satterfield, VP – Products Division, Triton Group.
“A key element in its success is its compatability with the XLX and other vehicles which allow subsea operators to be fully flexible in the scope of jobs they can undertake and cross utilize various parts such as thrusters, umbilicals, cameras and valve packs. “Each of these systems is built to order to feature a range of components tailored specifically to meet the needs of our customers who operate in some of the most challenging and demanding environments.
“The new acquisition will be installed onboard GSP Prince, the geotechnical and diving / ROV support vessel which entered the company fleet in September 2009,” said Fanel Hahui, GSP’s CEO.
“We have at the moment firm employment both for the vessel and the subsea equipment, including the custom built Triton®XLR ROV in two of our offshore construction projects, Galata and Olympia. We’ll also use the Triton®XLR ROV in subsea operations carried out under the TPAO contract, the vessel’s operation being at the moment under review for this contract.”
GSP is carrying out three offshore construction contracts at the moment, valued at more than £255 million. The GSP vehicle is rated to 2,000m with 125hp and comes with an extended length tether management system that is compatible with either the XLR or XLX. The Technocean vehicle is rated to 3,000m and will be delivered with a tether management system complete with DNV rated power system and specific tooling skid.
Formed in 2007, Triton Group comprises eleven companies offering a range of products and services to the subsea energy industry. Split into three divisions – Rentals, Products & Services and Technical Services, the Group offers the widest range of subsea technologies, equipment and expertise in the world from its global network of manufacturing and support centres.
